Castlemilk Moorit Sheep

The origins of Castlemilk Moorit sheep

This breed of coloured sheep was developed in the early 1900’s by crossing Shetland and Manx Loghtan ewes with a Mouflon ram. The sheep are always moorit (brown or fawn), with mouflon patterning (white underparts).

The fleece of Castlemilk Moorit sheep

The attractive coloured fleece is very fine and soft and quite short with no kemp in the adult fleece. It is a suitable only for experienced spinners.
