Traditional breeds of coloured sheep

Britain has many traditional breeds of coloured sheep. Some of these are well known and popular, including the following rare and primitive breeds

• Hebridean
• Manx Loghtan
• North Ronaldsay
• Shetland
• Soay

Improved breeds of coloured sheep

There are also improved breeds of coloured sheep, such as

• Black Welsh Mountain
• Jacob

Breeds of sheep that are sometimes coloured

Some breeds that are normally white can produce coloured sheep because of recessive coloured genes. They include

• Ryeland
• Leicester Longwool
• Wensleydale

Imported breeds of coloured sheep

There are imported breeds of coloured sheep, such as

• Blue Texel
• Gotland
• Icelandic
• Corriedale
• Zwartbles
